OverviewA Line Which Forms A Volume (ALWFAV) is a critical reader and symposium produced annually by participants of the MA Graphic Media Design course at London College of Communication. The eighth issue explored the concept of refraction, examining how a single idea can lead to multiple outcomes shaped by individual perspectives, experiences and cultural contexts. The publication brought together interviews, essays, conversations and graphic design-led research, culminating in an edition of 500 copies distributed internationally.

ApproachWorking as part of the publication team, I led the production process from print preparation through to final delivery. The publication's editorial and visual approach was informed by the theme of refraction, creating space for multiple voices, perspectives and research methodologies to exist within a single framework. The resulting publication balances academic rigour with experimentation, bringing together diverse forms of writing, image-making and design research into a cohesive printed outcome.

The publication (500 copies, globally distributed) explores refraction in design, showcasing diverse perspectives through research and visual experimentation.

This issue features contributions, including such as an interview with Astrid Vorsterman of Valiz Publishers, conversations with designers and researchers Paul Bailey and Irene Sempere, and an excerpt from ‘Chimeric Worlding’ by Tiger Dingsun, exploring the potentialities that exist between graphic design, poetics, and worldbuilding, as well as a selection of graphic design-led research developed within the at MA Graphic Media Design course.
